Updated: August 2026
QESCO’s bill portal accepts a 14-digit reference number or a 10-digit customer ID. Nothing else. No name field, no CNIC search, no meter number lookup. Sites advertising a “QESCO bill check by name” tool are not talking to QESCO’s billing system, whatever their homepage says.
Recovering the number is the real task, and it’s usually straightforward. An old bill, a photo on your phone, or a call to 081-9202955 with your CNIC and address will normally sort it. Balochistan’s distances make the office route more of an ordeal than elsewhere, so the phone and app methods below are worth exhausting first.
Already have your number? Head to QESCO bill online check.
On a different distribution company? The same problem affects all of them. Our main guide on how to check an electricity bill without a reference number covers every DISCO plus K-Electric.

What Each Identifier Does
| Identifier | Length | Works in bill checker? |
|---|---|---|
| Reference number | 14 digits | Yes |
| Customer ID | 10 digits | Yes, usually |
| Meter serial | Varies | No — office use only |
| CNIC | 13 digits | No — identification only |
| Consumer name | — | No |
Why Name and CNIC Search Isn’t Available
Two things are going on. The first is privacy. The second, and the one that actually blocks most people, is that the meter is often not registered in your name at all — rented houses, inherited property, connections still in a previous owner’s or a late relative’s name. In each of those cases your CNIC has no link to the billing account, so even a CNIC search would find nothing for you.
The “check bill by CNIC” claim, and the sites that exploit it, are covered in full in our main guide to checking an electricity bill without a reference number. The short version: QESCO indexes on the 14-digit reference number, so recovering that number is the job.
Finding the Reference Number on the Bill
Top-left block, under the consumer name and address, labelled REFERENCE NO. Fourteen digits, no spaces.
Shaped something like 29121234567890.
The opening digits identify your circle and subdivision, so every bill in your area begins the same way. Minor, but quoting it on the helpline narrows their search — worth doing when the alternative is a long drive.
The number belongs to the meter, not to you. A new connection means a new number, and a replaced meter can mean a fresh reference too. That’s the usual reason a number that worked last year now returns nothing.
Every other line on the bill is decoded in electricity bill terms explained.
The reference number and the shorter customer ID are easy to confuse. Our reference number vs customer ID guide shows exactly where each sits on the bill and when you need which.
Method 1: Any Bill From Any Month
Search the house thoroughly before doing anything else. In Balochistan the alternative may be a two-hour journey.
The reference number is identical on every bill you have ever received, so one from six months ago works exactly as well. Check the usual drawer, the file with the gas bill, and behind the meter box, where the last bill often ends up.
Method 2: Bill Photos on Your Phone
Two minutes, and it resolves this more often than anything else here.
If you’ve ever photographed a bill to WhatsApp to a relative in Karachi or the Gulf, or to whoever pays it on your behalf, the image is still on your phone. Scroll your camera roll around the first fortnight of any month, when bills arrive and get photographed.
Then search WhatsApp media in the chat with whoever handles the bill. Most photos are clear enough to read the reference directly.
Method 3: Your Wallet or Bank App
If a QESCO bill has ever been paid online from your phone, the number is already saved.
Open JazzCash, Easypaisa or your bank app and check:
Saved billers. After the first payment the app remembers the biller — QESCO will be listed with the reference attached.
Transaction history. Any past electricity payment shows the reference number on its receipt.
Bank apps usually hold a year or more, wallets a few months. Screenshot it. Given the travel distances in this region, having the number saved properly matters more here than almost anywhere else.
Our QESCO bill payment online guide walks through each app.
Method 4: Call 118 or 081-9202955
The official recovery route, and the one to try before any journey.
Dial the universal 118, or QESCO on 081-9202955. The headquarters line 081-9201445 is another option. Have ready:
- Your CNIC number
- The full address as printed on the bill — house, street, mohalla, tehsil, district
- The name on the connection if it isn’t yours
The agent searches by address and reads the reference back. Repeat every digit before you hang up — a misheard number out of fourteen means starting over.
If the account sits in a name you can’t document a link to, they may ask you to attend the subdivision office. Push for a phone resolution first if you’re a long way out; explaining the distance sometimes helps.
Method 5: The Meter Reader
Free and effective, particularly outside Quetta city.
The reader covering your area carries account details for every meter on his route. Ask a neighbour or the local shopkeeper which day he usually comes and catch him then. Most will read the number out without hesitation.
Ask which subdivision you fall under while you have him. That detail saves time on every subsequent call.
Method 6: QESCO Subdivision Office
The fallback that always works — but plan the trip properly, because in Balochistan it may be a long one.
Take to your area’s QESCO customer services centre or SDO office:
- Your original CNIC
- Proof of address — tenancy agreement, purchase deed, or a gas or water bill for the same property
- An authority letter if you’re acting for the registered owner
- The meter serial number, noted down before you leave
That last item matters more here than in most regions. Rural addresses in Balochistan are frequently ambiguous, and the meter serial resolves a search that an address alone can’t.
Ask the billing counter to trace the reference and print a duplicate bill while you’re there, so the journey covers both jobs at once.
Method 7: The 10-Digit Customer ID
An easy win people often miss.
QESCO bills carry a 10-digit Customer ID in the same top-left block as the 14-digit reference. The bill checker generally treats them as interchangeable — enter either and the same bill appears.
So if the only number you kept is 10 digits, don’t dismiss it as incomplete. It’s almost certainly the customer ID, and it works.
For a full breakdown of how the two identifiers differ, see reference number vs customer ID.
The 8334 SMS Service
PITC runs an SMS bill service for QESCO along with the other government DISCOs:
PITC (space) 14-digit reference number → send to 8334
Amount and due date come back in seconds with no data connection required. In Balochistan that’s not a minor convenience — across much of Kalat, Chagai and Zhob, SMS gets through where mobile data simply doesn’t.
But note the input: it requires the reference number and cannot find a lost one. Save it for once you’ve recovered the number, then use it every month.
You can also register your connection for automatic monthly bill alerts, so the amount reaches you by text without asking. Our guide to electricity bill SMS registration covers the setup.
Does the Meter Number Help?
Online, no. In person, yes — and here it matters more than in most DISCO regions.
The meter number is the serial stamped on the meter body. It identifies hardware; the reference number identifies a billing account. The public checker only reads the latter, which is why a meter serial returns “record not found.”
At the counter, QESCO staff can search internally by meter serial. Given how often rural addresses in Balochistan match several connections or are recorded inconsistently, this is frequently the identifier that actually resolves the search. Write it down before you travel.

Mistakes to Avoid
Entering the meter serial into the bill checker. Returns nothing every time. Not a fault in the site.
Losing a leading zero. Some references start with 0. Saved in a spreadsheet, the zero vanishes and you’re left with 13 digits that will never load.
Travelling to an office before trying the helpline. In this region that’s potentially a wasted day. Call first.
Paying twice. Wait 24 to 48 hours before assuming a payment failed. Duplicates become advances and take weeks to recover.
Typing your CNIC into a “check by CNIC” site. QESCO has no such lookup, so that page is collecting your data for something other than a bill.
FAQs
Can I check my QESCO bill by name or CNIC?
Neither is available on QESCO’s official portal, both for privacy reasons and because so many connections in Balochistan — particularly agricultural and tube-well accounts — are registered in a landowner’s or a late relative’s name. Your CNIC is still what identifies you when you call 081-9202955 and ask for the reference number to be traced by address.
How do I recover a lost QESCO reference number?
Look for any older bill first, since the number is the same every month, then search your phone gallery and WhatsApp for a bill photo. Check your wallet or bank app’s saved billers next, and only then call 118 or 081-9202955 — worth doing before any journey, given the distances involved.
Is QESCO bill check by meter number possible?
Not online, as the bill checker reads only the 14-digit reference number or the 10-digit customer ID. The meter serial is particularly worth taking to the subdivision office in Balochistan, where rural addresses often match several connections and the serial is what actually resolves the search.
Can I use the QESCO customer ID instead of the reference number?
Yes, in most cases. The 10-digit customer ID appears in the same top-left block of the bill and points to the same account, so entering it into the bill checker usually returns exactly the same result.
Does the 8334 SMS service work without a reference number?
No — you have to send your 14-digit reference number to 8334 to get your amount and due date back. It’s still one of the most useful tools in Balochistan once you have the number, since SMS reaches large parts of Kalat, Chagai and Zhob where mobile data doesn’t.
Why has my QESCO reference number stopped working?
The reference is tied to the meter and the billing account rather than to you, so a meter replacement or a change of connection can generate a new one. Call 081-9202955 with your address and confirm the current number before making any trip to an office.
What do I do after recovering the number?
Enter it into the bill checker to see your units, amount payable and due date, and download or print a duplicate if you need one. The QESCO bill online check guide covers the process, and QESCO per unit price 2026 explains the slab rates behind the total.
