The fastest way to make a JazzCash electricity bill payment is inside the app: tap Bill Payments, choose Electricity, pick your company, type your 14-digit reference number, check the amount the app fetches, and approve with your MPIN. It takes about a minute, works for every WAPDA distribution company and for K-Electric, and drops an SMS receipt into your phone the moment the payment clears. No smartphone? A JazzCash shop counter or the *786# menu does the same job with cash or a basic handset.
This guide walks through all three routes, tells you which number to enter for which company, and answers the two questions people actually worry about: is there a fee, and what happens if the money leaves your wallet but the bill still shows unpaid.
Before you start: three things to have ready
You need very little, but skipping any of these three is what turns a one-minute job into a frustrating one.
- A JazzCash mobile account with enough balance. The wallet must hold at least the bill amount. If it is short, load it first through a JazzCash agent, a linked bank account, or Raast from your bank app, then come back to pay.
- Your 14-digit reference number. It sits in the boxes at the top-left of a WAPDA-DISCO bill. K-Electric is the exception: you enter its 13-digit account number instead. If you have lost the bill, our guide on checking a bill without the reference number shows how to get it back, and if you are unsure which number the box wants, see reference number vs customer ID.
- The name of your distribution company. JazzCash lists each DISCO separately (LESCO, MEPCO, FESCO and so on), so know yours before you open the biller list. Not sure which company serves your city? Start at the all-DISCOs hub.
One habit worth building from the first payment: do not type the bill amount yourself. JazzCash pulls the payable figure straight from the billing system once you enter the reference number, so what you see on screen is the real, current amount. Your only job is to confirm it matches the bill in your hand.
How to pay your electricity bill on the JazzCash app
These steps match the flow on JazzCash’s own bill payments page as of August 2026.
- Open the JazzCash app and sign in with your MPIN or fingerprint.
- On the home screen, tap the Bill Payments icon.
- Choose the Electricity category from the list of bill types.
- Select your biller company from the list (for example LESCO, MEPCO, IESCO or K-Electric).
- Enter your reference number: the 14 digits from a WAPDA-DISCO bill, or the 13-digit account number for K-Electric. Leave out spaces and dashes; type the digits only.
- Tap to fetch the bill. The app shows the customer name and the payable amount. Check that the name and figure match your paper or PDF bill before going further.
- Confirm the payment details, then enter your 4-digit MPIN to authorise it.
- You will see a success screen with a Transaction ID (TID), and an SMS confirmation arrives on your registered number. That SMS is your receipt; keep it.
If the app cannot find a bill for your reference number, the usual causes are a mistyped digit, the wrong biller company selected, or a brand-new bill that has not yet been uploaded to the billing system. Recheck the digits against the bill, confirm you picked the right DISCO, and try again in a few hours if the bill was only just issued.
Which electricity companies can you pay through JazzCash?
Every distribution company billed through the national PITC system is a JazzCash biller, and K-Electric is listed too. The only thing that changes company to company is the length and position of the number you enter.
| Company | Region served | Number to enter in JazzCash |
|---|---|---|
| LESCO | Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura | 14-digit reference number |
| MEPCO | Multan and south Punjab | 14-digit reference number |
| FESCO | Faisalabad region | 14-digit reference number |
| IESCO | Islamabad, Rawalpindi | 14-digit reference number |
| GEPCO | Gujranwala region | 14-digit reference number |
| PESCO | Khyber Pakhtunkhwa | 14-digit reference number |
| HESCO | Hyderabad region | 14-digit reference number |
| SEPCO | Sukkur region | 14-digit reference number |
| QESCO | Balochistan | 14-digit reference number |
| TESCO | Tribal districts | 14-digit reference number |
| K-Electric | Karachi | 13-digit account number |
Whichever channel you use, the payment travels the same rails (the 1LINK and PITC network that connects wallets, banks and billers) and posts to the very same DISCO account as a payment made at a bank counter. There is no separate “JazzCash version” of your bill. Once it clears, it clears everywhere.
If you want the fuller picture for your own company, our per-DISCO payment guides cover every channel side by side, including LESCO bill payment, MEPCO bill payment and K-Electric bill payment.
Paying at a JazzCash shop or agent (no smartphone needed)
You do not need the app, or even your own JazzCash account, to pay through JazzCash. Walk into any JazzCash shop, retailer or franchise (the yellow-and-black signboards are everywhere) and hand over two things: your reference number and the cash. The agent enters the number on their own terminal, the system fetches your bill, they collect the amount, and a confirmation SMS comes to the mobile number given at the counter.
Two things protect you here. Give the agent a phone number you control so the receipt SMS reaches you, and keep that SMS until the bill shows as paid on your DISCO’s portal. If the agent’s terminal quotes an amount that does not match your bill, stop and recheck the reference number before paying; the system pays whatever account the number belongs to.
Paying through the *786# USSD menu (basic phones, no internet)
JazzCash’s USSD service runs on *786#, and it works on any handset with a JazzCash mobile account, no internet required. Dial *786#, open the Bill Payment option, choose Electricity, select your company, and enter your reference number when prompted. You confirm with your MPIN exactly as in the app, and the same SMS receipt follows.
USSD is a genuine fallback when your data is down or you are on a feature phone. For electricity, though, most people find the app easier, because the app shows you the fetched bill amount and payee name on a clear screen before you approve, while the USSD flow asks you to read that back from short text menus. If you are new to paying bills this way, do your first one in the app so you know what a correct confirmation looks like, then keep *786# in your back pocket for the day the internet is out.
Does JazzCash charge a fee to pay an electricity bill?
Here the honest answer is “check the screen, not a blog.” JazzCash’s own bill-payments page says plainly that “standard JazzCash service charges apply” and points to its Schedule of Charges for the exact figures, which it can revise at any time. Whether a given electricity payment carries a charge, and how much, is something only your own confirmation screen will tell you for certain. Its utility bill payments pages promote the same electricity, gas, water and telephone payments for their convenience, but “convenient” is not the same as “free,” so don’t assume either way.
That is why the confirmation screen matters. Before you enter your MPIN, JazzCash shows you the exact amount that will leave your wallet. If there is any charge, it appears there and you can back out without paying. Treat that screen as the final word on cost, ahead of any figure you read online (including ours). If a paid amount ever looks higher than your bill, screenshot the confirmation and query it with JazzCash before paying again.
What JazzCash charges has nothing to do with what is on the bill. The units, taxes and surcharges that make up the total are set by NEPRA and your DISCO, not the wallet. If the bill itself looks too high, that is a different investigation: see our breakdowns of the per-unit electricity price and the taxes on your electricity bill.
Daily and monthly limits: what can hold up a large bill
JazzCash does not cap electricity bill payments as a category. What can stop a big payment is your account’s own transaction limit, which depends on your KYC level rather than on the bill.
- A basic mobile account carries a modest monthly ceiling.
- A fully verified account (upgraded with CNIC and biometric verification) raises that ceiling substantially, well into the hundreds of thousands of rupees a month.
Because a DISCO bill is paid in full (you cannot part-pay it through the wallet), a large bill can bump into a low limit. If that happens, you have two clean options: upgrade your account through the app’s verification flow or at a JazzCash agent, or pay that bill at a JazzCash shop counter instead. Your exact remaining limit is shown inside the app, so check it there rather than relying on a general figure, since limits and tiers change over time.
Your confirmation, receipt and proof of payment
Every successful JazzCash payment produces two records: the success screen with a Transaction ID (TID) in the app, and an SMS to your registered number. Together they are your proof, and you should treat them the way you would a stamped bank slip.
- The app keeps a transaction history. Open it any time to re-find a payment, note the TID, or save the receipt.
- If anyone ever disputes that a bill was paid, the TID plus the date and amount is what lets JazzCash or your DISCO trace it.
- Save the biller while you are there. Once a connection is saved, JazzCash remembers the reference number and shows the new amount each month, so you never retype 14 digits again.
You paid, but the bill still shows “unpaid” — what to do
This is the single most common worry, and most of the time nothing is wrong. Wallet payments are near-instant, but the DISCO’s public bill status can lag. It often updates within a couple of hours, and it can take up to the next working day for a paid bill to flip to “paid” on the company’s website. If you paid close to the due date, the payment still counts from the moment JazzCash confirmed it, not from when the website catches up.
Work through this before doing anything drastic:
- Confirm the payment actually succeeded. Open JazzCash transaction history and find the entry with its TID and “successful” status. If it is not there, or shows as failed, the money did not leave, and you should simply pay again.
- Do not pay twice on the strength of a slow website. A confirmed TID means the payment is made. Paying again just because the portal has not refreshed creates a duplicate you then have to chase for a refund.
- Give it until the next working day. Weekend and late-night payments commonly post the following business day.
- If it still has not cleared after that, contact JazzCash on 4444 (from a Jazz number) or 111-124-444 (from any network) with your TID, date and amount, and separately raise it with your DISCO. For the right complaint number, use our verified DISCO helpline directory rather than a random search result.
If you paid after the due date, note that the payable amount already includes the late-payment surcharge (10% for domestic consumers), which is why the figure JazzCash fetched may be higher than the “within due date” amount printed on the bill. Our guide to paying after the due date explains how that surcharge is added and when it is applied.
JazzCash or Easypaisa: does it matter which?
For paying an electricity bill, the two work almost identically: same reference number, same fetch-and-confirm flow, same instant SMS receipt, same set of DISCOs and K-Electric. Use whichever wallet you already keep money in. If you are an Easypaisa user, the mirror-image walkthrough is our pay electricity bill with Easypaisa guide. The reference number you enter is the same in both, so a saved biller in one app is just as valid a record as in the other.
FAQs
Does JazzCash charge a fee for electricity bill payments?
JazzCash’s own bill-payments page says “standard JazzCash service charges apply” and points to its Schedule of Charges, which it can change at any time. So rather than trust any fixed figure online, read the confirmation screen. Before you enter your MPIN, the app shows the exact amount leaving your wallet, and any charge appears there. Treat that screen as the final word on cost.
Can I pay a K-Electric bill through JazzCash?
Yes. K-Electric is a listed biller in JazzCash’s Electricity category. The one difference from the WAPDA companies is the number you enter: K-Electric uses a 13-digit account number (printed on its bill, often starting with 0400), not the 14-digit reference number used by LESCO, MEPCO, IESCO and the rest. Everything else, from the fetch-and-confirm flow to the SMS receipt, is the same.
Can I pay my electricity bill on JazzCash without the app?
Yes, two ways. You can walk into any JazzCash shop or agent and pay with cash by giving them your reference number, and a confirmation SMS goes to the phone number provided at the counter. Or you can dial *786# on any handset with a JazzCash account, open Bill Payment, choose Electricity, select your company and enter your reference number. Both settle to the same DISCO account as an app payment.
How long does a JazzCash bill payment take to reflect on the DISCO’s system?
The payment itself is near-instant, and JazzCash confirms it by SMS immediately. The DISCO’s public “paid” status can lag, often updating within a couple of hours and sometimes taking until the next working day. Your payment counts from the moment JazzCash confirms it, so a slow website does not put your bill at risk of a late surcharge once you hold a successful Transaction ID.
Is there a limit on how large an electricity bill I can pay through JazzCash?
There is no cap on the electricity category itself, but every JazzCash account has a monthly transaction limit tied to its verification level. A basic account has a modest ceiling; a fully verified account raises it well into the hundreds of thousands of rupees a month. Since a bill is paid in full, a large bill can hit a low limit. Check your remaining limit in the app, and if needed, upgrade your account or pay that bill at a JazzCash shop.
Can I pay someone else’s electricity bill from my JazzCash account?
Yes. Bill payment goes by reference number, not by who owns the wallet, so you can pay a parent’s, tenant’s or shop’s bill from your own account. The payment posts to whichever DISCO account that reference number belongs to. Because of that, always confirm the customer name and amount the app fetches before you approve, and never pay against a number you have not verified against the actual bill.
The short version
Open JazzCash, tap Bill Payments, choose Electricity, pick your company, enter the reference number, check the amount the app fetches, and confirm with your MPIN. Keep the SMS and Transaction ID as your receipt, and give the DISCO website a few hours to show “paid.” No smartphone or data? A JazzCash shop or the *786# menu gets you to exactly the same place. Save the biller once and next month is a two-tap job.
